The traditional method of instruction teaches the child to read music as he or she learns to play the instrument. For this method it is suggested that the child begins lessons at approximately the same time that the student is learning to read the written word. When teaching in a more traditional manner, I also like to partner with parent in the learning experience of the student and include musical games, group music making experiences, and a varied repertoire that includes music from classical, folk, or popular sources.
